CHD Awareness Week

Most people are unaware that Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) are the most common birth defect in America, affecting approximately one in one hundred, or 40,000 newborns each year. CHDs are responsible for one third of all birth defect-related deaths and sadly 20 percent of children who make it through birth will not survive past their first birthday. Although a child is born every 15 minutes with a CHD, research continues to be ...grossly under-funded in America. Of every dollar the government spends on medical funding, only a fraction of a penny is directed toward congenital heart defect research. (http://childrensheartfoundation.org/)

This week is CHD awareness week.  I have got to know many heart mom's through their blogs.  There is NO way I could tell their stories as well as they can, so I encourage you to go read their blogs and their stories about their little boys.  There are many other heart mom's in the blogging world, but these are the ones I have gotten to know and prayed for MANY, MANY times.

The first heart mom I started following was Megan at In this Wonderful Life.  When I first started reading her blog she was pregnant with Cohen and he had been diagnosed before birth.  Check out her blog to read Cohen's story.  He was a strongwilled little boy, but the man upstairs had bigger plans for him.  He touched many lives in his short time on earth.  Megan is an inspiring woman and mother.  I still follow her blog and she now has two adorable twins.

Through Megan's blog I also found other heart mom's and started reading their stories.  One of them being Kristin at Sexton 4 who lives less than 30 miles from us.  Read Luke's Story here. Also I found Kirsten at Team Ewan Read Ewan's Story here.  Both of these ladies had little boys who were strongwilled and fighters for their time here.  Both of these ladies now have healthy little girls.
