Graduation recap-Part 2

Here are a few more pictures from pinning.

Mom, Shannon, me, Morgan & Spencer

Sherri & I

By this time I was starving.  We planned on going to Subway & grabbing lunch in between the ceremonies, but they were not open.  We ended up eating in the cafeteria at DUC.

I decided a couple of months ago I wanted to walk the line at WKU graduation.  Here is the group from the Nursing Program that decided to walk.

They recognized all the single parents who were graduating.  This is the first time mom actually found me to start getting some pictures.

Lining up to get my diploma

Shaking Dr. Ransdell's hand
I was glad I decided to walk the line.  The morning pinning was more personal for me & a time to reflect on the last two years of my life with my fellow classmates.  The commencement was laid back and a fun celebration time.

Here are some cap/gown pictures we took after we got home.

Spencer finally decided he would smile for a picture =)

After taking a few pictures we went out to eat.  We had planned to go to O'Charley's (which is my favorite place to eat), but there was a two hour wait.  We decided to go to Logan's.

After getting home & getting settled, Laura & I hung out for a couple of hours.  We had a BLAST!  It had been a long time since I had been out.  It was a much needed celebration for both of us.  We will definitely be hanging out more in the future.  (Sorry I didn't take my camera...so no pictures)

Graduation recap...Part 1

I don't even know where to begin.  This has been an amazing, wonderful & memorable weekend...to say the least!

Saturday morning I woke up & wondered if this was REALLY the end of my nursing school experience...I like to look at it as MANY new beginnings.  I knew it would be a busy, but rewarding day.

First thing on the agenda for the day.  WKU ADN PINNING CEREMONY at 11.  When we arrived I started to get nervous.  I was hoping to make it through the ceremony without any tears (yeah right).  The pinning ceremony is just for our nursing class so it is a more personal ceremony for "us".  I will give you a little recap of the ceremony.  We walked in to Miley Cyrus "The Climb".  When I was walking down the aisle I was trying to remember to breathe & trying not to cry.

Trying not to cry ;)
We all stood up & watched all our classmates walk in

A student from Bowling Green campus said the opening prayer.  Then the director of the nursing program said a few words.  Glasgow interim director said a few words and the interim director at the Commonwealth school said a few words.  Then the class speakers got to say their speeches.  We got to vote on who we wanted to speak for our class.  Sherri, my study buddy & good friend spoke for the Glasgow campus.

Sherri did a WONDERFUL job on her speech!  WAY TO GO SHERRI!
Next was Bowling Green campus.  After the speakers they played our slide show with all our "Thank you's & our nursing pictures".  I posted my "Thank You's" here (I cried like a baby when they played them).   Then they gave out the friendship award & academic award for both campus's.  Next they presented all the KANS (Kentucky Association of Nursing Students) officers with a plaque.

Next it was time for pinning. This is what I had been waiting for.  I was very nervous standing up there waiting to be pinned.

At this point I thought I might cry

Mrs. Underwood pinning me.  This woman has helped me more than she will ever know!

A BIG HUG!

Then as a class we recited the Nightingale Pledge

I solemnly pledge myself before God
And in the presence of this assembly:
To pass my life in purity and
to practice faithfully;
I will abstain from whatever is delleterious
and mischiecous
And will not take or knowingly administer
any harmful drugs;
I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate
the standard of the profession, and
will hold in condidence all personal matters
committed to my keeping and
all family affairs coming to my
knowledge in the practice of my calling;
With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician
in his work,
And devote myself to the welfar of those
committed to my care.

Time for a group picture.

Then it was time to walk out to "Celebration".

I was walking with PRIDE!
I got to spend some time with my family & take some pictures.

I think I have maxed out the amount of pictures I can put in one post :(   I have some more family pictures, commencement pictures & cap/gown pictures to share.  Also I have a lot of pictures from my reception today.  Thank you to everyone who was able to attend & for all those that weren't I understand!  A BIG thank you to my Mom & Step Dad for ALL your hard work to make today possible.  I will finish blogging about the weekend tomorrow.  I am wore out from all the excitement this weekend & my bed is calling my name!

THANKS AGAIN to EVERYONE who made this weekend AMAZING, MEMORABLE & WONDERFUL!  I LOVE ALL OF YOU!!!!!

Thank You's for pinning ceremony :)

Here are the "thank you's" I promised to post that were played at pinning ceremony.

I could never express how blessed & thankful I am for everyone for your support. My family & friends have went above & beyond to help in every way possible. There are a few people who I would like to give a "special" thanks to.

My mom, who is also my best friend, & my stepdad for all your emotional, physical & financial support. They were always there whenever I needed them.

My dad & stepmom for your encouragement & help with the kids.

Gene & Joann for your encouragement & help with the kids.

My grandparents for all your encouragement & financial support.

My study group, who I spent more time with than I did my family, thank you for pushing me. A special thanks to Sherri for letting us take over your house, keeping us fed, keeping me on track & pushing me when I felt like I couldn't go anymore.

Last but certainly not least, my 2 amazing children, Morgan & Spencer. They have been my inspiration through this whole process. This is "OUR" future!

God for granting me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Thank you to all my friends & family who helped in any way. I could not have accomplished this without all of you...even on my weakest day you all stood behind me & made me stronger. THANK YOU!

2 posts today!

I was right...Today will get two post.

I got my hair cut & for some reason I decided I wanted a change.  Maybe it because a lot of things in my life are changing...so why not my hair too.

I am still trying to get everything ready for tomorrow.  I don't think I realized today would be so hectic...or maybe I did & just decided to go with the flow instead of getting stressed out over it.  I will have everything ready before I go to bed tonight because I don't want to do anything in the morning but get ready.

The butterflies have started to set in.  Today during pinning practice I started to get nervous.  Don't get me wrong I am VERY EXCITED!!   Tomorrow will be a VERY memorable day in my life & my children's life.  This will be one of the most wonderful days in my life aside from the birth of Morgan & Spencer!   I'm sure tomorrow will be an emotional day...good emotional but still emotional :)

Graduation is TOMORROW

WOW!  I think reality is starting to set it.  I knew today would be a busy day & it's not even half way over.  Today there may be two blog post...we will see.  This morning we had to re-take the HESI exit exam.  We have to score an 850 in order to take the NCLEX for our license.  The first time I took it I scored a 650...this time an 810.  I was happy that I improved so much.  I am not & have never been a test taker, so I have major test taking anxiety.  Maybe the next time I will get the score I need.  We can take the test every week until we pass...we just have to start paying for it now each time we take it.

Next thing on the agenda for the day was pinning practice.  I think this is what REALLY made reality start to set in.  I started getting nervous!  It made me realize this is REALLY OVER.  This journey in my life is coming to an end & there are so many doors & opportunities now available to myself & my children.  I am sure tomorrow will be an emotional day for everyone...myself, my classmates & all the families who have supported us through the last two years.  It has been an emotional, physical & mental roller coaster.

Now it is off to get my hair cut.  Then got to go get all my stuff together for tomorrow.

WKU ADN CLASS OF 2011....WE DID IT!!!!

NCLEX 4000....COMPLETE =)

Today we had another day of NCLEX review.  After review I came home to work on my NCLEX 4000 questions....which I had already done 10 times trying to get the score I needed.  I FINALLY achieved what I needed to & couldn't find my cord to the printer, so I saved it on my flash drive.  When I went to open it....it looked like foreign language.  I am going to try to figure out a way tomorrow to open it in English.  Tomorrow is the LAST day of review.  I am ready for a day to sleep ALL day.  My body & brain are both exhausted...but it will probably be Monday before they get a break.  Lots & lots to do everyday!

I am going to go ahead & share the picture of my graduation hat....I know I said I was going to wait...but I showed some people at school today...so now it's not a suprise.
top of graduation cap
We also got our nursing cords yesterday to wear at graduation.  We will be the first class to get to wear them :)
NSNA Nursing Cords for graduation

I have already started getting graduation cards :)

Outside-"Congratulations on Your Achievement"
Inside: "What an achievement!  Right now you must be feeling on top of the world because all your hard work has paid off.  Here's to you and the many more successes that are surely coming your way."
From:  Joyce & Bob

Outside:  "For someone special  Congratulations on your graduation  You've been someone who's special right from the start, and so this wish meant just for you is coming from the heart...."
Inside:  To hope your graduation brings you joy & happiness and that your life is always gilled with everythings that's best.
From:  Gene & Joann

I am so blessed to have a great support system.  I could NOT have made it through the last two years without any of them!

I promised I would share the card mom got me for Mother's Day....so here it is
Front:  "Daughter, nothing could be nicer than memories of the dear little girl you were..."
Inside:  "...unless it's the thought of the lovely person and mother you are today.  Happy Mother's Day"

I think she forgot how emotional I had been when she picked out this card.  It is so SwEeT :)

I also wanted to share Morgan's three year metal she recieved at the recital from Mrs. Jessica.

When certain doors closed on me in the past I didn't think I'd get through it. Now so many doors have opened for me & can't believe how happy & blessed I am. Thank you to everyone for all your support & encouragement. I am excited to be starting a NEW chapter in my life =)

Absolutely NO stress :)

Today has been wonderful...absolutely NO STRESS....and it feels FABULOUS!  Today was our first day of NCLEX review.  We have two more days of review...Friday we have our retake HESI exam & pinning practice.  Then Saturday is the "BIG" day!  I still don't think the reality has set in yet.  Maybe it will before Saturday :)

We were supposed to decorate our caps at lunch tomorrow, but I got a wild hair & done mine tonight....sorry girls, but there would have been NO way for me to get mine done in an hour.  Have fun tomorrow decorating ya'll's!  I have spent the last few hours decorating my cap for graduation....who knew such a small task would/could be so complicated.  I made three trips to Hobby Lobby before I finally got it just perfect :)  I won't post pictures of it until Saturday.  I want everyone to see it for the first time on Saturday!  I still have my graduation "Thank You's" saved & I will post them Saturday too.  I just don't want anyone to read them/hear them until pinning.  I want it to be "special" to all the ones who will be there to celebrate with me.  I re-read them last night & was almost in tears again....I thought that emotional stuff was supposed to stop after the test yesterday! ;)

Nothing much going on...just trying to get all the "last minute" paperwork, NCLEX questions & HESI remediation questions finished before Friday.  Hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful sunshine today :)

It's official...I will be GRADUATING SATURDAY!!!!

I never thought this day would come.  I am graduating college on Saturday!  Oh me, oh my!  I can't believe it.   This has been a LONG, HARD road...and this is something NO ONE can ever take away from me.  There have been so many people who have stood behind me & made this possible for me to succeed.

I really don't think the reality of it has set it.  I have been very excited today...but I don't think it will even compare to the excitement I will feel Saturday when I get officially pinned & walk the line at graduation.

My kids were so excited!  I don't think they believed that this is OVER!  Spencer asked me several times if that meant "NO more studying & NO more test".  It was funny.  Morgan jumped up & down for 20 minutes & hugged me over & over.

It felt really weird to come home & not to have to open a book.  I really didn't know what to do with myself.  I finally asked Spencer if he wanted to go to the park & play.  Morgan was at dance so we headed to the park & he got to play on the playground.

This week is going to be busy & hectic....but I will take it!  We have three days of NCLEX review course, HESI exit exam (retake), pinning practice, pinning & graduation still to come.  Then on Sunday Mom is having an graduation reception/open house for family & friends.

Thank you to EVERYONE for your thoughts, prayers, support & encouragement through this whole process.  I couldn't have done it without each & everyone of you.  I am a VERY BLESSED person!

Here is my official nursing picture that will now be on the "Wall of Fame" at Glasgow campus.

Tomorrow is the "DAY"

I said I probably wouldn't blog today....but after 12 LONG hours of studying...I really don't know what else I could actually go over.  As I sit here "trying" to wind down so I can get a good nights sleep I have so many thoughts running through my head that I need to get out.

I have waited for this for a LONG time!  I have put in many long hours & days of studying.  I have spent time away from my kids that I will never get back.  I have put family & friends on the back burner for long periods of time.  There are so many sacrifices that I have been made for me to get to this point...not only by me but also my kids, my family & my friends.  I could NEVER express the gratitude I have for all the people who have stood behind me 110% of the time...through good & bad!  You have all pushed me in ways I didn't know I was even capable of.

Nursing School has taught me a lot about myself as a person.  I have learned there are things in life that aren't worry about.  When I started this process I really didn't know what I was about to get myself into.  There have been many sleepless nights, lots of homework, lots of anxiety, LOTS of stress & LOTS of tears!  I had always heard nursing school was torture...but until you put yourself through it you never understand the extreme!

I have made some really good friends through nursing school & I hope to never loose contact with them.  There have been times I have seen them more then I have my own family...the last 4 days being one of these times.  I have laughed with these girls and cried with these girls.  We have lots of great memories that we can talk about for years!  We have spent some long hours studying & eating today...this was a picture taken on hour 7.

There is a lot riding on tomorrow...we have 2 BIG test!  I have tried REALLY hard to not thing about it that way...but the truth of the matter EVERYTHING depends on these two test!  I have done everything I know to do to prepare for tomorrow...and now I am leaving it in God's hands.  I am a firm believer in "EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON".  I have said LOTS of prayers & I know I have a lot of people standing behind me doing the same.  Thank you to everyone for all your support & encouragement!

Good Luck to all Nursing 250 students as we go take these two very important test tomorrow.  We ALL have a lot to be proud of...we have all come a LONG way & sacrificed a lot to get to this point.   Reminder to self:  JUST BREATHE!

I CAN, I AM & I WILL

Just trying to remind myself to BREATHE!  It was a LONG, intense day of studying.  Today the information seems to come back a little easier.  Hopefully that is a good sign???  I can tell my anxiety level has been higher today.  I have tried to control it, but it seems like the closer we get to Monday morning the worse it gets.  I am sure this all normal...but I don't like this feeling...especially when I have had it for almost a full week!  My body & mind will be glad for Monday to be OVER!  One of my friends, who is also now a nurse asked me tonight "If I thought I was ready for this final?"  Really.....do you ever feel like you are ready for a nursing test?????  I have went into test very confident that I knew my stuff....only to be shot down by the test.  I have learned to NEVER feel confident about a test in nursing school...& that's how I will be going into the test on Monday.  There is always that thought in the back of your mind...Have I done enough?  Was there more time I should have been studying?  After a long, intense day of studying I went to my mom's for supper.  They were cooking for Mother's Day and my grandparents were there.  It was nice to spend some quality time with my kids & my family!  Spencer sat out on the porch with me & told me the air was getting sticky & it was fixing to rain.  It was so cute!  Morgan had to show me her hideout she had made in the trees they had cut down.  After leaving my mom's, my cousin & I went to the tanning bed.  It was VERY relaxing to clear my mind.  I do believe I prayed the whole time I was laying there.

Last night was Morgan's last night of recital.  Here are a few pictures.

The Final Hug :)

Morgan & Mrs. Jessica

There will probably not be a blog entry tomorrow, because tomorrow is "DO or DIE day".  There will be a lot of studying going on.  Happy Mother's Day to all the Mother's out there.  A VERY SPECIAL HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to my mom!  Thank you for ALWAYS being there for me my entire life...no matter what decisions I have made you have stood behind me 110%.  Thank you for all your encouragement, support & help through nursing school.  And most importantly thank you for all your help with the kids so I could spend a few extra hours studying.  I COULD NEVER THANK YOU ENOUGH.  I LOVE YOU MOM!!!!  Tonight my mom gave me the sweetest card & I will post pictures of it soon.  She really must have not been thinking about how emotional I have been lately when she picked it out!

My mom & Shannon

Now it is time to get my head back in a book.  Happy Studying to all Nursing 250 students.  It is ALMOST OVER.  I CAN, I AM & I WILL!

Trying to stay positive :)

Yesterday was a VERY hard day.  While studying for finals I felt like I was doomed.  I was hoping that once we started studying everything would start coming back to me & then I could just focus in on the things I struggled with the first time around...well needless to say this wasn't the way it worked.  After spending several intense hours study I just wanted to cry.  I got to thinking about the "big" picture too much & how everything I have put myself & my children through over the past 5 years depended on the outcome of two test on Monday.  I guess I was setting myself up to be anxious, nervous & stressed!  I know better then to look at the big picture....I do a lot better when I take one day at a time :)  Anyways, as usual, my support system kicked in HIGH gear & brought me back to reality.  I have worked my butt off for two long years & I must have done something right to get to this point.  Therefore I am going to "try" to remain positive & take this day by day with lots of prayers, LOTS of studying & lots of support from the "BEST" people in the world.  No need to fret....I HAVE GOT THIS!  I CAN, I AM & I WILL (this has been my saying through nursing school).  By NO means am I being arrogant or thinking I have this in the bag.  I know it is going to take A LOT of HARD work the next 2 days!  I am NOT giving up without a fight!!!!

Morgan's first night of dance recital was last night.  Of course I was an emotional basket case....like usual for me. ;)  As the finale there was a performance to "Time of my Life"

I cried like a baby!!!!!!  Here are a few pictures from the night.
The stage :)

Everyone on stage for 1 last time :)
Hat's off to Jessica & all the staff!  She is a wonderful asset to our community and makes a difference in a lot of little girls lives!!!!

Today has been a BETTER day stress wise!  I have tried to have a positive attitude all day even though I haven't I didn't remember everything as we were studying.  I know my brain can only hold so much information & there is NO sense in getting all stressed out about it.  Whatever is meant to happen....will happen.  One of my facebook friend said it best yesterday.  "Prayers going up...blessing coming down"  Thanks Laura...I needed to hear that!  I am just overwhelmed with all the support I have had over the last couple of days.  I PROMISE I am not a complainer normally, but nursing school has a way of bringing out the worst in you.  All the stress, anxiety, nervousness & craziness will be OVER in 2 days....YES I JUST SAID 2 DAYS.  That means 2 more LONG, HARD days of studying.  After Monday there are still lots of things that need to be done, but the majority of the stress will be OVER!!!

Morgan has an encore performance tonight and Spencer has a ballgame...so I'm off to do my motherly duties.  Then the kids are heading to mom's for the rest of the weekend so I can STUDY!  I am sure there will be all nighters the next two night & lots of Red Bull, but WHATEVER it takes.

I'm really sad that finals are the day after Mother's Day....therefore I will be spending Mother's day with my head in a nursing binder....but it will all be worth it in the end.  I will have ALL the time in the world with the kids in a few days.  Thanks mom for all your help...I COULDN'T do it without you!

Thanks to everyone who has listened to me grip, fuss & complain for the last week.  :)

Last Day of Practicum :(

Today was my last day of practicum.  I was hoping to make it through the day without any tears...and luckily I did :)  I under estimated myself on this one.  I have had such a GREAT time in the ICU & have learned so much.  I am going to miss all the nurses...they have all been VERY helpful & friendly :)  I am definitely going to miss my preceptor!!!  We had a pizza party for lunch because it was my last day.  I thought I was going to be the first student ever to graduate nursing school & never start an IV...but my preceptor pulled through...she let me start one on her!  I was so excited that I got it the FIRST time!!!!  I know there will be many more IV's to start in the coming months!!!!

I was glad to get home to the kiddo's even though they came straight home & went to bed.  They will be so excited when all this is over & we can do the "normal" things again.  Spencer LOVES to play Pictureka every night & we have had to put that on hold the last couple of nights.  Family game night on the Wii has been moved to the back burner the last couple of weeks too!  We will all just be glad when this is over & things can go back to normal.

Normal....really what is that?  I am not sure I can even remember what normal is anymore.  Nursing school has been my LIFE for the last 2 years & before that I took general education classes for 3 years.  I have been a college student for 5 years.  What will I do with myself after graduation???  When I started college I had  just went through a divorce (maybe someday I will blog about that point in my life....maybe...maybe not...we will see) anyways all my divorced life I have been a college student.  So all this will be new to me once I graduate.

The kids are all tucked into bed & I think my bed is calling my name.  I have a LONG, HARD day of studying for FINALS tomorrow.   FINALS....now that is a "dirty" word.  I'm sure there will be plenty of blogging on this subject in the next 4 days.

5 more days :)

Wow did I just write 5 more days????  The thought of that makes me sick at my stomach....which I have been ALL day!  I am having a really hard time taking all this in right now.

Today was test day as many of your know & I PASSED!!!!!!  Thanks for all the prayers!!!  WOO HOO....it has been a while since I passed a test this semester!  Anyways I was VERY proud because I have put in long hours for the last several days....and it paid off.   I now have a 76.8 in the class...which makes my stomach turn REALLY bad.  In order to graduate we have to have a 77.0.  There is NO longer a rounding rule in the nursing program...which by the way sucks!!!  There has only been one semester I have went into finals passing...so I know it is still VERY possible for me to graduate.  I just hate that my family & friends are going to be stressed out for the next 5 days.  I'm not sure why I do this every semester....but it always seems to work out.  One of my nursing peers told me at the begining of the semester I was the "luckiest" person she knew...she said you have pulled yourself out by the skin of your teeth 2 times now...."Either the 3rd time will be a charm or 3 strikes & your out"  I am still hoping for the 3rd times a charm.  I don't know if my body (especially my heart) could handle going through this again...and I'm not so sure my family or kids could.  Lots & lots of prayers for all of us the next few days :)

I woke up with a migraine this morning...which started my day off on a wonderful note.  I am not sure what is was caused from....could have been one of many things....withdrawal from Red Bull? stress? not eating right? sleep-deprivation?  So after getting the kids out the door & to school I took some medication so I could get through the test..  I was hoping after the medication & test it would subside & I could make it through the day.  Well needless to say....it didn't.  I have had a major headache ALL day....to the point that it has made me sick at my stomach.  I really think it is from stress related to nursing school as evidence by migraine, upset stomach & palpation's.... (wow...did I really just write a nursing diagnosis about my migraine???).  YES sometimes I wonder if I may be losing my mind....LOL

Just a quick run down of what all still has to be done in the next 11 days....

12 hours of Practicum tomorrow
Studying Thursday
Morgan dance recital Thursday Night
Studying Friday
Morgan dance recital Friday night
Spencer ballgame Friday night
Saturday & Sunday all day & all night study sessions
Monday FINALS (oh me)
Monday HESI-which is worth 10% of our grade :(
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday--8 hours each day of NCLEX review
Friday--retake the HESI Exit exam (we took it for the 1st time today...and I didn't do so well)
Saturday---PINNING & GRADUATION

I think writing all that & looking at it is going to cause me to have a panic attack....I will NOT know what to do when I can actually have a life again.

Just my thought for the day :)

Last time I checked I lived in the United States of America, which is a FREE country.  I am 30 years old & DO NOT have a ring on my finger....therefore I do not have to answer to ANYONE but MYSELF!

This quote is what has gotten me through the day....."If people are trying to bring you down, it only means that you are ABOVE them."

Well that's all for now....gotta get back to studying :)

Last few weeks of school=LOTS of STRESS

I haven't forgot about my blog, just been very busy studying.  The last few weeks of school are ALWAYS VERY STRESSFUL.  Add graduation being in 13 days & every thought possible running through my head...I think I might have a nervous breakdown!  I will be glad when studying is OVER...I am SO READY to have my life back.  These 10-12 hour days of studying is getting old FAST!!!!

Just some advice to anyone whose head I might bite off in the next 8 days....I am SORRY!  I am stressed out & ever little thing seems to send me over the edge.  This is just an advance warning :)

Also, just need to get something off my chest.....If you tell me you are going to do something PLEASE follow through with your word.  I am so sick of people telling me things and then when it comes to putting those words into action they are nowhere to be found.  I have had this happen several times in the last few weeks & it really aggravates me....especially right now when I need a little extra help.  I am "trying" my hardest to do everything I can by myself, but sometimes everyone needs a little help.  I have always been the type of person who didn't like to ask anyone for anything, but the last few weeks I have broke down & asked for help....so please keep your word if you tell me you are going to do something :)

I will be back in a few days....8 more days till FINALS....13 days till graduation!  Please say LOTS of prayers for all Nursing 250 students!  There is still a lot of things that have to be done for school + studying for test....4 more tests to go!!!!
